What causes a double chin?
Fullness under the chin (or double chin) is a concern for many people. It can detract from an otherwise balanced and harmonious facial appearance leading to an older and heavier look. There is a common misconception that fullness under the chin only appears in those who are overweight, when in reality it can occur in any body type and may be related to ageing, genetics or weight gain.
What do we use to treat a double chin?
Our double-chin treatment is an injectable prescription medicine that contains an active ingredient called deoxycholic acid. When injected into the submental fat under the chin, it causes the destruction of fat cells and once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. It is the only non-surgical injectable treatment for reduction of fullness under the chin that has undergone rigorous clinical evaluation. Prior to this, treatment for submental fullness was limited to highly invasive surgical options such as liposuction. Our fat dissolving injections are an effective non surgical solution to creating a more contoured neck profile and jawline.
What is involved in the procedure?
The treatment is administered by a medical practitioner and involves the injection of small amounts of the medicine into several locations in the treatment area. It is recommended to be performed at 6 weekly intervals with a minimum of 2 treatments. On average, between 2-6 treatments are needed to achieve desired results.
Is there any downtime?
Post fat dissolving treatment it is important to acknowledge the following information:
Swelling is the predominant noticeable side effect and will last anywhere from 2 days to 3 weeks depending on the level of fat treated. Intensive exercise, hot baths/saunas/steam rooms or anything that stimulates heat should be avoided until swelling subsides.
