I’m writing this, 40,000 feet above sea level, watching “Brad’s Status”, and sipping on a glass of Italian white wine. Life is pretty good!
I was extremely fortunate this year to be invited to attend the AMWC conference in Monaco and have been flown Business Class to get there (there is seriously a fully serviced bar at the back of the plane). This is likely to be a once in a lifetime event for me, and I couldn’t miss out on it.
Given the 20+ hours of flying to get there, I’ve taken a bit of time to reflect about why I’m going (besides the face that this is MONACO!). Taking a week means time away from my dogs, as well as time away from a clinic which is still very much in its growing phase, not yet a year old.
Attending more events is a proactive decision I made about a year ago. I have been invited to attend numerous training days and talks, but would often decline as, (being self-employed), not working means no income. And having to pay someone to fill in for me would often mean operating at a significant loss.
Accepting as many invites as possible has led to me attending more Galderma events in Brisbane, and Syneron Candela events in Sydney. I have also accepted invites to speak at four Syneron Candela events this year, attend the ASAPS conference in June (Gold Coast), and a one-day conference in Seoul (September). I have also blocked off more time to have Galderma attend our clinic to do advanced training with myself and other injectors.
I have done this to always push my boundaries and knowledge. Even attending basic training will yield one or two ideas that will change or improve our practice. If you stop learning you can quickly become irrelevant, especially in this field. Cosmetic medicine is still in its relative infancy. Take hyaluronic acid dermal fillers for example. They haven’t been around 20 years yet, and injecting techniques and indications seem to change as quickly as Taylor Swift changes boyfriends.
My goal, and our goal as a team, is to always be up to date and provide the best products and the best treatments, whilst utilizing the best knowledge. Taking time out to attend industry events is the only way to be able to bring you (the client) the best.
This will be my first overseas conference, and I’m quite excited to see what they’re doing differently to Australia, and the new up and coming technology and products.
It’s now time to get a refill on a 20-year-old port and enjoy a dessert cheese plate. It’s a tough gig, but somebody has to do it. 😉
I hope to see you all soon.
Until next time,
